On The Go Technology

Mobile technology has revolutionized the way people relate to handling and receiving information anytime or anywhere.  The populous is spending more time away from radios, televisions, and newspapers in favor of interactive methods to receive information (Morris, Tomasi, Terra 2008).  A 2006 study from the Forester Research Inc., found one-quarter of all online consumers subscribe to some form of podcasts because they can access on demand: according to their own schedules and through the use of mobile technology (Morris 2008).

Users are the missing link in this evolving technological trend.  In 2005, 5 million users downloaded podcasts whereas the average user in 2010 downloads 6 per month, total estimated user downloads are 18 million weekly to annual projections at 60 million with steady increases doubling by 2020 and beyond (bridgeratings.com).  Future trends impacting podcasting such as paying for subscriptions does not seem to be slowing the pace of consumer usage.

Pages to the People

Exceptional audio/video podcasts produced locally, with high personal appeal are uploaded via RSS feeds.  The topographic mapping of podcast navigation requires world wide web distribution to locate global audiences. Programming on demand aggregators act as podcatching clients for distribution.  Limitations on reaching audiences do not exist if marketed effectively by these online aggregators.

The ability to customize personal listening habits with specialty podcasts is a growing trend impacting future public relations with radio broadcasting well beyond 2020.
